Bayern Munich have submitted a formal bid of €70m, plus add-ons, for the Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as reported by The Athletic on Tuesday.
The English striker has just one year left on his contract which means he will be free to negotiate with any club in January.
Bayern, who sold their primary striker Robert Lewandowski to FC Barcelona in 2022, spent the entire previous season with only one natural striker in Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
With the signing of the Englishman, Bayern will be able to fill the hole that was left wide-open by the departure of the Polish striker who scored 344 goals in 375 matches for the German club while also winning the UEFA Champions League (UCL) title in 2020 where they defeated Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the final 1-0 at Estadio da Luiz, Portugal.
Earlier, Kane, 29, had been linked with many clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid since the start of the transfer window.
The Los Blancos wanted to acquire the services of the striker to cover up the departure of the legendary striker Karim Benzema, who left the Spanish capital after 14 astonishing years, but the move was ruled out by Madrid as they want to land the PSG star Kylian Mbappe.
The Engish footballer is also heavily admired by Man United’s board as they have been trying to sign the Englishman since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge.
The 29-year-old notched up 307 goals and 80 assists in 514 club appearances, so far, over the course of his career.
He also became the first player to score in 25 different matches in a 38-game Premier League in the 2022-23 season.
It must be noted that Kane is the second-highest goal scorer in the Premier League (PL) history. With 213 goals, he is only 47 goals behind the top scorer Alan Shearer who scored 260 goals in his staggering career.
It has to be seen whether Kane is ready to give up on his dream to become an all-time PL goalscorer to join the German giants where he can possibly taste European glory.
